Asian Persuasion

Insider's Guide to Becoming a Professional Illustrator

Spot me :)
I managed to attend a talk show back home during the break about being an Asian illustrator and working in the creative industry within the Asian region (mainly South East Asia and East Asia) as well as internationally, how to work remotely

There are different views and work ethics when working specifically in South East Asian based agencies. Resources are difficult to come by and the value of art in these countries may not be high in comparison to the UK. It is mentioned that Asia isn’t particularly big on illustration, but graphic design, entertainment, media and advertising are of demand. However the industry is growing - people are appreciating more of the creative field such as arts and craft fairs, gallery workshops, independent print studios etc.

Gap Year Program Booklet Design

My internship had been a mix of experiences of work that I enjoyed and did not particularly liked. I worked with two completely different clients, one is a start up business and the other is a community based work.

Program - Asana

I really enjoyed the community based work with a very wholesome mission in mind (raise awareness of the environment and ban plastic bags in Bali). I am not fond of doing graphic design based work, however it is something that my clients wanted. But I learnt that they also appreciate my opinions and input in terms of aesthetics and design. The people I worked with are very cooperative and trusted my judgements on these creative aspects.

I learned a lot about work ethics in Indonesia as well as various softwares people in start ups use, such as Asana and UX Design. It is a perk being located in a co-working space, where I get to meet and network with other start up companies and people, from marketing to photographers.
